Today students began exploring division! We began by solving a multiplication word problem, then I posed a related word problem that was division. By using word problems students are able to give meaning to each number in the problem.
Students set out with their choice of tool: whiteboard, notebook, hundreds chart, pebbles, tiles, cubes, etc.
Some students are feeling so proud of their new understandings, and some are feeling overwhelmed by how difficult today's class was. That is life. Some days we are on top of the world, other days we are not. Each student that wants a buddy to help them finish up today's classwork tomorrow morning jotted down the name of a friendly face willing and able to help!
